Some felt that was a unsatisfying path to Jedi hood while Jedi complained the major risks didn't merit the reward. These told people to master certain professions to unlock a Jedi character. Some were fine with that, other felt it was false advertising since the box mentioned the possibility and the game's staff gave cryptic comments about it.

  • For a while, there were no player Jedi.
  • The entire Jedi profession start to finish, not helped by how many times it was changed.
  • Without Jedi, some will certainly opt not to play on the server at all, but I still suspect there might be a large group of players that would relish the opportunity to enjoy a healthy economy without the disruption that Jedi brings to the table. In other words, they would normally only choose to play a non-combat profession, but they will play as a Jedi if given the opportunity. I would bet that players might completely forego other types of gameplay just to play as Jedi. I do think there is a unique draw to Jedi. Who wants to shoot a lame blaster pistol when you can wield a lightsaber? In my opinion, even if Jedi is somehow perfectly power balanced with the other combat professions, it is still the Alpha class in a Star Wars universe. However, even if that were the case, I still have my reservations about Jedi. Will they also be making Force Sensitive/Jedi as easy to attain and master as the standard combat professions? That seems to me like the only way that a true balance could be achieved. In a way those servers I mentioned are even worse than SWG was "post-holo" because they've broken down the interdependent relationships between professions by deviating from single character servers as the game was designed and intended to be played.

Everything revolves around the ridiculous Village phases and the grinding they involve. In the SWGEmu derived servers it's grinding the Village. I remember my guild suddenly doing nothing but either engaging in the massively profitable holocron market, or grinding professions nonstop. I remember because I played during that time. A massive portion of the player base spent time hunting holocrons or mastering professions only for the sake of unlocking the Force Sensitive characters. During this time period the game totally collapsed. This is the time period before the CU, but immediately after details about achieving Force Sensitive were released to the public. The pre-cu servers that are available right now, like Reckoning, Sentinel's Republic and even the new "Intended" are all somewhat representing the single worst, narrow period of time in SWG development history that is described in this video. The sad thing is that Jedi are STILL killing Star Wars Galaxies.
