(If you include a space in the username, the profile folder name will also include a space.

  • Enter a local user name that matches exactly what you want to see as the profile folder's name.
  • On the "Create account" page, click Add a user without a Microsoft account.
  • On the "How will this person sign in?" page, click I don't have this person's sign-in information.
  • Sign in using an account that has administrative rights and go to Settings > Accounts > Family & Other Users.
  • After you finish creating the user profile, you can switch the local account to a Microsoft account. If you'd rather choose your own name for the profile folder, the trick is to start by creating a local account whose user name is the same as the name you want for your profile folder for a new local account, Windows uses the full account name as the profile folder name. (There's an unsupported way, but I don't recommend it, for reasons I explain at the end of this post.) And there is no supported way to rename a user profile folder after it's created. In fact, if you create a new user by entering the email address associated with a Microsoft account, Windows uses the first five letters of that email address as the folder name.
